ERP Upgrade, impact on businesses:

Amadori's experience.

Organizational implications and business repercussions resulting from an ERP upgrade require internal and external resouces with a high degree of versatility and capabilities, combined with a valid methodology if a business is to achieve the desired results

In 2009 Amadori began undergoing an ERP upgrade to the new version, JDEdwards EnterpriseOne 9.0: a highly technological application with significant implications on the functional processes and strategic development of the company.

The company

Gruppo Amadori (www.amadori.it) is one of the leading European companies for the production and marketing of poultry. With several production sites, 32 branches and offices throughout Italy and around 6,500 associates, the company claimed earnings of 1,030 million Euros in 2008.

ICT function and organization provides services for the group's companies in 70 different locations throughout the country and to around 1,000 users.

Management System Upgrade

Gruppo Amadori has been utilizing ERP systems solutions, Oracle JDEdwards, for its internal processes and integrated with departmental systems (e.g. planning, logistics and BI).

In 2009 Amadori began undergoing an ERP upgrade to the new version, JDEdwards EnterpriseOne 9.0: a highly technological application with significant implications on the functional processes and strategic development of the company.

From a technological viewpoint the process implies:

  • A change in reference architecture and in working procedures by users;
  • Updating or simplifying a large number of existing applications.

Entirely modernizing its IT systems was the key to reconsidering many other 'core' processes and transforming them into leaner, more flexible applications to respond to dynamic market conditions.

This is why, before embarking on the upgrade, Sinfo One carried out a comprehensive feasibility study, in order to understand not only the technological impact of change, but also how the change would affect processes and the organization itself.

Initial functional analysis activities confirm the findings of the feasibility study: alternative proposals for managing some of the Group's key processes have been recommended and any likely changes have been discussed with senior executives concerned.

The outcome depends on effective teamwork

Organizational implications and business repercussions resulting from an ERP upgrade require internal and external resources with a high degree of versatility and capabilities, combined with a valid methodology if a business is to achieve the desired results

During the ERP upgrade of Gruppo Amadori, an internal team collaborated with Sinfo One consultants combining ERP software capabilities with business know-how in the food sector and its knowledge of organizational implications of technological and application decisions.

To lead the project Sinfo One used the following methodological guidelines:

  • To standardize ERP, JDEdwards "core" application, eliminating the high number of customizations that misrepresent the application;
  • To rationalize some processes with the aim of making them more flexible and user friendly;
  • To reconsider business processes at functional and organizational level.

These guidelines are a starting point: from the impact on single program or application to the formulation of proposals to enhance working processes and customer satisfaction.
